”Because of their function, the objects we find in flea markets, in gadget catalogues, or in the neighbour’s closet tell us more about the nature of human beings than art does.” That’s why Sara Isaksson From finds them more interesting. ”For me working with functional objects is a way of trying to understand and comment on the conditions of human life. The utility aspect is such fundamental element in our lives, and it´s also a distinctive feature of the human race. We are encumbered by the objects we use, but they also influence us and in an extended sense, even change us.” As a part of her investigation of functionality, Sara has been working on creating objects that are so well designed for their purpose that they cannot be used for anything else.
